AMP Research PowerStep LED Light Kit
Our PowerStep LED Light Kit transforms your automatic running boards into a fully illuminated entry system. When your PowerStep boards deploy, integrated LEDs cast a bright, clean light onto the ground below — exactly where you need visibility when entering or exiting your truck in low-light conditions.
We engineered this kit specifically for PowerStep models, so installation is straightforward and the wiring integrates with your existing board harness. The LEDs mount flush along the step edge, protected from road debris and weather while delivering over 400 lumens per side. Whether you're loading gear after sunset or arriving home late, these AMP Research PowerStep lights give you the visibility and safety you expect from OEM-grade accessories.
What's in the kit

Installation & Compatibility
The PowerStep LED Light Kit is designed for direct installation on AMP Research PowerStep and PowerStep XL running boards. Our plug-and-play harness connects to the existing PowerStep control module — no splicing, no custom wiring. The entire installation typically takes 30-45 minutes with basic hand tools.
Each LED module mounts to the underside of the step using stainless steel hardware included in the kit. The modules sit recessed in dedicated pockets on PowerStep boards manufactured after 2016; for earlier models, we include universal brackets that position the lights at the optimal angle for ground coverage. The system draws power directly from your PowerStep controller, so the lights activate and retract in perfect sync with your boards — no separate switches or timers required.

Light Output & Visibility
We spec high-output LEDs that deliver over 400 lumens per side, casting a wide pool of light directly beneath your truck’s rocker panel and door opening. The 6000K color temperature produces a crisp white light that enhances contrast on gravel, mud, or snow — giving you clear visibility of your step surface and the ground around it.
The polycarbonate lens is precision-molded to distribute light evenly across a 90-degree spread, eliminating hot spots and dark zones. Because the LEDs mount flush with the step edge, the light pattern stays focused downward rather than spilling outward where it could distract other drivers. In our field testing, the kit provided measurable visibility improvement in parking lots, driveways, and off-road scenarios where ambient light is minimal.
Durability & Weather Protection
Every LED module in this kit carries an IP67 rating — fully sealed against dust ingress and protected against temporary water immersion up to one meter. We potted the circuit boards in silicone and sealed all connector points with marine-grade gaskets, so the lights continue to function in rain, snow, mud, and stream crossings.
The housing is injection-molded from impact-resistant polycarbonate, the same material used in off-road light covers. We tested the modules through 500 hours of salt-spray exposure and 1,000 thermal cycles from -40°F to 180°F without degradation. The stainless steel mounting hardware resists corrosion, and the wiring harness uses automotive-grade Deutsch connectors rated for engine-bay temperatures. These AMP Research PowerStep lights are built to last as long as the boards themselves.

PowerStep Light Kit Questions
Yes, the light kit is compatible with all AMP Research PowerStep and PowerStep XL running boards. For boards manufactured after 2016, the LEDs mount in dedicated pockets on the step housing. For earlier models, we include universal mounting brackets that position the lights correctly. The plug-and-play harness connects to any PowerStep control module regardless of year or vehicle application.
The lights activate automatically when your PowerStep boards deploy. Our harness connects directly to your PowerStep control module, so the LEDs turn on and off in sync with board movement. When your door opens and the boards extend, the lights illuminate. When the boards retract, the lights turn off. If you have an override switch installed, the lights will also respond to manual board activation.
Most customers install the kit themselves in 30-45 minutes with basic hand tools. The installation involves mounting the LED modules to the underside of your PowerStep boards using included stainless steel hardware, then connecting the plug-and-play harness to your existing PowerStep controller. No wire splicing or electrical modifications are required. Our detailed instructions guide you through each step, and the connectors are keyed to prevent incorrect installation.
Yes, every LED module carries an IP67 rating for complete dust protection and water resistance up to one meter of temporary immersion. We seal the circuit boards in silicone and use marine-grade gaskets at all connection points. The polycarbonate housing is impact-resistant and tested through extreme temperature cycles, salt spray, and vibration. The lights are designed to withstand mud, stream crossings, pressure washing, and harsh weather conditions.
The PowerStep LED Light Kit produces over 400 lumens per side — significantly brighter than typical door courtesy lights, which usually output 50-100 lumens. Our lights are positioned directly under the step to illuminate the ground and stepping surface, creating a much larger and more useful light pool than door-mounted lights can provide. The 6000K color temperature delivers crisp white light that enhances visibility in low-light conditions.
The PowerStep LED Light Kit is covered by our 5-year mechanical warranty and 3-year electrical warranty. The mechanical warranty covers the LED housings, lenses, and mounting hardware against defects in materials and workmanship. The electrical warranty covers the LED modules, wiring harness, and connectors. Both warranties are honored through our network of authorized dealers and cover replacement parts and labor for qualified claims.
No, the lights draw power only when the PowerStep boards are deployed. When the boards retract and your doors close, the lights turn off completely and draw zero current. The system is controlled by your PowerStep module, which itself goes into standby mode when the vehicle is off. There is no parasitic draw that could drain your battery during storage or extended parking.
